Author, Singer, Daydream Believer
Do you want to publish your fiction for the world to see? Don’t make the same mistakes I made. I published my first novel, Sugar & Spies in 2012 without beta readers, editors, or even telling people I published it. I half-assed everything and got almost nothing in return.
I’m here to help you start your publishing journey, whether you’re a newbie writer, looking for ideas and how to write your best story, or if you’re ready to publish, and want help in building your audience.
I graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri (2009) with a BFA in Creative Writing and minors in music and film. I’m a five-time NaNoWriMo Participant, and one-time winner. I won Camp NaNoWriMo once in 2015 and twice in 2016.
I originally blogged at The Modern Jane Austen from 2012-2016, and hoped to turn it into an author blog, but decided to go for a whole new re-design to focus completely on writing and books. Here, I am dedicated to writing helpful content that will sharpen your skills, and help you find a writer community.
I started writing stories when I came back from a showing of Little Women in 1994. I was nine years old, in love with books, and suddenly realized that I could write them, myself. I took pride in every writing project in school from there on. I still remember reading my stories to my class, and hearing that they liked them. It’s a feeling that never gets old.
When I got to college, I focused all of my creative writing energy into writing screenplays, which combined my love of film with my love of writing. My screenwriting teacher is still my favorite college professor, and she gave the best advice. Advice that I will share with you.
